About the ERA website
The ERA website aims to bring together a history of some of the past rallies and events, together with a wealth of information, results and images from over the years. We want to give a flavour of what taking part in an ERA event is really like.
One of the most obvious features of this website is the wealth of photographic material used, thanks to the redoubtable ERA photographer, Gerard Brown. We've asked Gerard to provide us with a few words.
"A professional photographer for more than 20 years. I have travelled the world shooting commissions for many and varied clients. My work has taken me from the worlds of dog training in the Cotswolds to that of Shaolin monks in China through to warrior priests in Southern India.
Although there’s never a dull moment in my day job, working for the ERA however is the icing on the cake. Through my the work on the Rallies I’ve seen things that you’d never see as either a regular ‘tourist’ traveller or, as is more often the case, a business traveller. When you’re moving by car across continents and through countries you’re exposed to everything. The back of beyond borders, the accommodation and food with a more local flavour and the real people.
Those who live and work off the beaten track are usually a lot more interesting than those who you meet in hotels and airports. As a photographer it’s magical, every day the landscapes change, every day the people change and every day there are new experiences and opportunities.
I find working as a part of the ERA team fantastically rewarding. There’s a real strength in depth with the other members and wherever you find yourself, from a frozen tent on the high plateau of Mongolia to a 5 star luxurious safari Camp in Africa I always know I’m in safe hands."
